Chiral Connector Plugin

Chiral Connector is a client-side plugin for the Chiral Hub ecosystem. It is installed on individual WordPress sites (referred to as “Hub Sites”) and serves as the bridge to the central hub (Chiral Hub Core).

Through Chiral Connector, your site can easily and securely sync article data (such as titles, summaries, featured images, etc.) to the Chiral Hub. More importantly, it enables your site to fetch smart related post recommendations—powered by Jetpack—from across the entire content network and seamlessly display them on your article pages.

This not only greatly enriches your site’s content but also effectively boosts user engagement and pageviews, extending the reach of your content across the Chiral network.

Installation Guide

Before installing Chiral Connector, please ensure you have obtained the following information from your Hub administrator:

  • Hub site URL
  • A Chiral Porter role username
  • An application password generated for that user

Installation Steps:

  1. Log in to the WordPress dashboard of your node site (the site where you wish to install the Connector).
  2. Navigate to Plugins > Add New.
  3. Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.
  4. Select the chiral-connector.zip file you downloaded earlier, then click Install Now.
  5. After installation, click Activate Plugin.

Initial Configuration

After enabling the plugin, go to the Chiral Connector settings page in your WordPress dashboard and complete the initial setup.

  1. Connection Settings:
    • Hub URL: Enter the full URL of your Chiral Hub Core site (e.g., https://hub.yournetwork.com).
    • Hub Username: Enter the Chiral Porter username provided by the Hub administrator.
    • Hub Application Password: Enter the application password generated for the Porter user. This is not the user’s login password.
  2. Display Options:
    • Enable Related Posts: Check this to automatically show related posts at the end of your articles.
    • Number of Posts: Set how many related posts to display.
  3. Save and Test:
    • Click Save Changes.
    • Click the Test Connection button. If you see “Successfully connected to Hub!”, the configuration is correct.
    • For sites with a large amount of existing content, it is recommended to click Batch Sync All Posts to sync all posts to the Hub in one go.

FAQ

Q: What should I do if the connection test fails?
A: Please troubleshoot using the following steps:

  1. Double-check that the Hub URL is correctly spelled and includes http:// or https://.
  2. Confirm that Hub Username and Application Password are accurate with no extra spaces.
  3. Ensure the Hub site is accessible and no firewall or security plugin is blocking its REST API.
  4. Contact the Hub administrator to confirm your credentials and Node ID are valid.

Q: Why aren’t my posts syncing to the Hub?
A:

  1. First, make sure the connection test succeeded.
  2. When joining a network for the first time, run Batch Sync All Posts to send your historical posts to the Hub.
  3. On the post edit page, check if the “Send to Chiral?” meta box is ticked.
  4. Some posts may be marked as “Pending Review” on the Hub side and require approval by the Hub admin before appearing in recommendations. Please contact the admin to confirm.

Q: Why isn’t the related posts module displaying?
A:

  1. Make sure related posts display is enabled in the settings.
  2. It may take time for content to sync and be indexed by WordPress.com. For new sites, please wait after running batch sync.
  3. If your theme is highly customized, it may not call the the_content filter properly. Try manually inserting the shortcode into the post content to specify placement.
  4. The more content in the network, the better and more accurate the recommendations. If the network is small, there may be no suitable posts to recommend yet.

Q: How do I change the Source name shown when my post appears on another site?
A: The Source Name is currently derived from the display name of your Chiral Porter user on the Hub site. You need to log into the Hub site with your Chiral Porter account, then go to [Users] > [Profile] to modify it.

If your Hub site does not allow login to the WordPress dashboard, you can ask the Hub administrator to modify it for you.

Q: What happens when I click “Quit Network”?
A: This is a very important action. Clicking it will send a request to the Hub to delete all data associated with your Node ID. It will also clear all local connection settings and deactivate the plugin. This action is nearly irreversible. Afterward, you are responsible for logging into the Hub site and confirming your data has been completely removed.
